'Strange Space'

Creating a strange way of having a coffee using the words "interstitial" and "niche", and the weaver bird, to inform the final design.

Experimentations were made with different types of pasta. The final selection was Bucatini Spaghetti which was boiled in coffee and then threaded using wire and dried to create and maintain organic spiralled shapes.

​

For the construction of the 1:1 model, chicken coop wire was utilised for structural stability and the wired spaghetti was intertwined through this. 

​

The result was a strange encounter with these precarious structures creating thresholds, and opportunities for respite -users being able to interact with the spaces and have a "cuppa".
